Some recent attempts during a complicated boombox might have been less than faithful to the original incarnation, though TDK looks to at least have the heart in a right place with its simply-named “Three-Speaker Boombox.” Set for an central debut during CES in January, the $499 device boasts a streamlined pattern compared to the 1980s-era originals, though it’s still unmistakably a boombox as well as, according to Crave’s early hands-on, it pumps out a startling volume of tune from its 35 watt RMS speakers. You’ll also get a full operation of audio inputs (including iPhone / iPod await around USB, rather than than the dedicated dock), a built-in AM / FM airwave, an OLED display upon the front as well as, perhaps most appropriate of all, some oversized aluminum knobs. Needless to say, we’ll be gripping our eyes out for this a single during CES.
