LG introduces Xnote P210 12.5 in. laptop with super-thin bezel

PC companies have the way of observant a computer has an “edge to edge” shade if there’s a singular square of potion using from one edge to the other — even if which glass covers not only an LCD arrangement, though also a thick black bezel. But LG is getting a single step closer to expelling a bezel with its brand new Xnote P210 laptop which facilities a single of the smaller bezels I’ve seen. It’s still there, though it doesn’t take up scarcely as much space as bezels on most other laptops.

Aside from a shade bezel, a many particular thing about this laptop is probably a screen distance: 12.5 inches. As far as I can tell, this is a initial laptop since a Lenovo IdeaPad U260 to have that shade distance. The P210 will be accessible with Core i3 or Core i5 processor, 4GB of memory, a 320GB tough drive, Bluetooth 3.0, the 1.3MP camera, and Windows 7 Home Premium. It will come in white or pinkish as well as white, as well as run around $1100 to $1200 in Korea. There’s no word upon US pricing or accessibility nonetheless, but I’d suppose this laptop would lift a reduce cost tag in the West.

It was always hard to comprehend Kodak as a display technology c ompany while maintaining a zero presence in the TV or monitor industry, and now, after developing the first OLED material way back in the 70s and plenty of beautiful displays since, Kodak is getting out of the OLED game. They’re selling to LG, who first inked a deal with Kodak back in March for using Kodak technology, just started selling a 15-inch OLED in November, and hopes to have a 30-inch display out by 2012. Kodak calls its IP portfolio for OLED “fundamental,” so even if this doesn’t speed up LG’s time to market, it might give it som e significant cost advantages in the long run. Speaking of patents, Kodak and LG have also entered into a “broad” cross-license agreement to dip into each other’s patent portfolios, and the two companies could last be seen skipping merrily, hand-i n-hand into the s unset.

Price fixing is nothing new in the LCD panel business. Hell, collusion is pretty common across the entire consumer elect ronics in dustry though it’s difficult (and costly) to prove. Now Nokia, the world’s largest maker of cellphones, is suing a who’s who of Asian LCD manufacturers alleging a ploy to fix prices on handset LCDs. The November 25th filing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Francisco di vision, names Samsung Electronics, LG Display, Sharp, Hitachi, and Chunghwa Picture Tubes as co-conspirators. Nokia, of course, is seeking cash and injunctive relief to remedy damages incurred and has the dubious honor of following another high-profile move launched against Apple just last month. Wi th Nokia’s high-margin smartphone sales waning against stiff competition, it’s easy to understand why its execs would be miffed if they paid artificially high pri ces for panels considering the sheer volume of lower-priced handsets Nokia sells at razor thin margins.

Hey — what’s t hat? Oh right, it’s the LG eXpo, the slider with a pico projector jammed inside. Among other things, the full QWERTY sli der’s packing a 1GHz CPU, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera, a microSD slot, and of course that removab le Texas Instruments projector. The just-announced handset bears quite a strong resemblance to the Monaco we heard about way back in May — though from the looks of it, its lost all of the brassiness we were so fond of. The eXpo runs Windows Mobile 6.5, and it will hit AT&T on December 7th for $199 after a mail in rebate with a two year contract — plus an additional $179 should you choose to opt in on that projector. Clocking in at 1:48, this glimpse at LG’s IQ (a.k.a. Monaco) is indeed very brief and not much is said. It’s got a fingerprint sensor lock, S-class UI (which we kne w), and that backing is definitely Windows Mobile 6.5, but for everything else we’ll have to refer to the previous specs we’ve seen leaked. As noted twice by the voice behind the on-screen hand, it’s coming “this holiday season” and will be exclusive to Telus, so all the fine print should be revealed soon. V ideo after the break.

With LG predicting a 3D television market in excess of 30 million units by 2012 and Samsung busily promoting its related world’s firsts, you’d better believe that these powerful South Korean “chaebols” have their government’s full support when it comes to delivering 3D content. Just today the Korea Communications Commission (KC C) announced its drive to start beaming 3D broadcasts in Full HD quality sometime in 2010 — licensing begins in January with first broadcasts expected mid-year. Unlike those 3D satellite broadcasts tested in Japan and the UK, Korea will deliver its 3D content through its te rrestrial networks. Of course, Korea’s pay-TV providers want in on the acti on too, with CJ HelloVision set to offe r 3D content through its video-on-demand offerings in the next “week or two.” CJ HelloVision will initia lly target about 300 households with plans to extend the service to 1,000 homes by 2012. Viewers will need yet another set-top box to view 3D content likely limited to “cartoons” at first. Pricing has not been set and it’s entirely possible that 3D VoD titl es will be free at first in order to build momentum and to ensure viewer lock-in of the all important child demographic.

We don’t know what exactly China Mobile is putting in its manufacturer partners’ tea during contract negoti ations, but considering how rapidly China’s largest carrier has grown its OPhone line into the most desirable single-network lineup of Android handsets in the world, we’d strongly recommend they continue to do it. Rumor s of an LG entry back in August have now come to fruition in the form of the GW880, a full touch handset l aunching this month featuring a solid 3.5-inch WVGA display, 5 megapixel camera, and support for a pair of pretty important homegrown standards — TD-SCDMA for 3G and CMMB for mobile TV tuning. For comparison, LG’s only other announced Android phone — the GW620 Eve for global distribution — steps down to a HVG A display, so yeah, if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got a Mandarin lesson in a couple minutes.

LGs Monaco (IQ) spotted in Telus garb, rocking WinMo 6.5 and Snapdragon

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard anything about LG’s Monaco, but now it seems as if the wait for this to transition from presentation slide to reality is almost over. Unfortunately, Windows Mobile 7 won ‘t be onboard as previously rumored, but prospective Telus customers can look forward to LG’s S-Class interface sprucing things up somewhat. Other specs purportedly include a Snapdragon processor, WVGA display, 5 megapix el camera and a slide-o ut QWERTY keyboard, though nitty-gritty details beyond that are nil. Peep that read link if you’re lusting for a few more angles, and don’t kid yourself — you are.
